An astonishing brawl erupted during a woman’s college basketball match which led to 15 players being suspended.
The Southern Jaguars were edging their contest with Texas Southern Tigers 51-49 when it all kicked off with 12 minutes left on the clock.
A Tigers player squared up to an opponent after an illegal barge sent her tumbling to the floor.
Players from both teams stepped in to intervene as the referee’s whistle blew repeatedly, but any hope of calm vanished when the first punch was thrown.
The court became a warzone as players punched, wrestled and kicked each other with the outnumbered officials struggling to quell the carnage.
Eventually, after a 30-second scrap, order was partially restored as people on the sidelines got involved.
Despite the violence, there were no major injuries sustained.
The game ended in a double forfeit. Seven players from Southern and eight players from Texas Southern were suspended.
Texas Southern have since announced that it was withdrawing the women's basketball team from the SWAC tournament because it would not have enough players to compete.
