RIYADH: The Ministry of Labor recently conducted raids on 750 mobile phone sales and maintenance shops in Madinah and Qassim and apprehended several people for breaking the country’s labor and residency laws.
The violations include failure to comply with articles 39 and 33 of the country’s labor law. Article 39 bans an employer from allowing his worker to work for others. Article 33 requires all expatriates to have work permits.
The ministry stated that its actions are aimed at regulating the labor market, curbing malpractices and protecting the livelihood of citizens and expatriates. There would be zero tolerance of all violations, the ministry said and urged the public to report criminal behavior on the number 19911.
The raids follow the ministry’s announcement that the mobile phone industry has up to Sept. 2 to Saudize the sector across the Kingdom, covering sales, maintenance and accessories.
The ministry will implement the plan in coordination with the ministries of commerce and industry, municipal and rural affairs, communications and information technology and interior. The aim is to create jobs for Saudi men and women that would give them financial stability and minimize cover-up activities. The decision must be enforced across the country and include small, medium and large businesses.
The ministry said that it would work with the Human Resources Development Fund, Technical and Vocational Training Corporation, General Organization for Social Insurance and other agencies.
