You don't need to be rooted or install different rom just to unlock this model, All you need
to do is:

PROCEDURE:

Dial: *7465625*638*# 

It will launch the "PERSONALIZATION" Menu.
MNC / NCC means the network code
In the first box, enter the network code 5 digits to be exact
NOTE: Each country has a specific network code Google it here:

Then on Control Key box just type "0" or number Zero 8 times,
Then hit back and hit ok and you will see a notification that will then lock to your desired carrier.

ADDITIONAL INFO:

In my case I will lock my phone to Softbank MMC/MCC 44020, it will unlock my phone and I can use softbank right after. And Lock again to another MMC/MCC 51503 which is Smart buddy I have a smart buddy Sim card here for testing purposes, it will detect my Smart buddy sim and pickup NTT Docomo signal which is default signal here once your simcard setup as "Roaming".
After a while putting back my Softbank sim card It will remain unlock to Softbank.
In short, you can input MMC/MCC code as many as you want and the previous setup will remain unlock.
