The difference between a Wireless IP camera connection to the internet and connecting a DVR to the internet is that the signal from the wireless Camera to the router is wireless, whereas an ethernet cable is required to connect directly from the DVR to the router. The IP camera will come with software as well as the DVR reflecting the features of each device. Businesses usually have a Static IP address whereas residences have Dynamic IP addresses. A static IP address can be requested from your service provider. A Static IP address is the same at all times. Just log into your local network with this address and access your internal WLAN.
